4th or 5th Grade Advanced Level Math (ALM) Program

ES Math

Students identified for the ALM program have demonstrated readiness for algebraic thinking and complex problem-solving.

In an effort to place each student at a level that ensures both success and challenge, we look carefully at the following measures:

● LinkIt! Form C
● End of Year Grade Level Assessment
● Advanced Problem Solving Test

MATH PLACEMENT CRITERIA

A student’s performance on each of the measures is assigned a point value according to the tables provided below. Based on their total point score, students are placed in either ALM or grade level math courses. Math placement is not an exact science. Nevertheless, the score threshold we have established has proven to be a reliable predictor of success.

Should you have any questions about the placement of your student, please feel free to contact Mrs. Pamela Amendola, Millstone Elementary School Principal, at pamendola@millstone.k12.nj.us .

Thank you for your interest in our math placement process and in the education of your child.

Sincerely,
Dr. Paul Baker
Director of Curriculum and Instruction
